Guest Post & Giveaway: Coleen Kwan – Is There Still A Place For “Sweet” Romance? {Closed}

Sweet Romance
by Coleen Kwan

In these times of Fifty Shades of Grey and the growing popularity of erotic romances, is there still a place for sweet romance? Are there readers out there who still want ‘closed door’ romances? I strongly believe so! I enjoy a steamy read, but the heat rating of a book isn’t my main reason for picking it. For me, it’s the romance that takes center stage. It’s the hero and the heroine, with all their flaws, quirks, and strengths. It’s the conflict between them, both internal and external. It’s the spark that ignites whenever they’re together, no matter how much they might fight it. It’s the whole, delicious, mysterious process called ‘falling in love’. That journey includes physical attraction, for sure.

It wouldn’t be a romance without the lure of carnal pleasure! The sexual tension between hero and heroine is a major part of any romance. It adds the spice and spark to their growing relationship. It reveals their characters and often their hidden desires. Sweet romance can crackle and pop with sexual tension—it’s definitely not ‘watered down’ romance!

In my new Entangled Bliss romance, Real Men Don’t Break Hearts, the relationship between Ally and Nate sizzles from the moment Nate steps into Ally’s gift store. These two characters are very different, and yet they also have a lot in common, if they could only overcome the hostility of the past. The physical chemistry between them quickly becomes irresistible, but it’s the growing intimate connection between them that is just as (or more) important. As a writer, I loved exploring the journey Nate and Ally take.

There are missteps and blind alleys and more than a few awkward moments, but there’s also compassion, tenderness, and understanding. Passion and lust play their part in drawing them together and pushing them apart, but ultimately it’s the emotional bond between them that is key to their happiness. Real Men Don’t Break Hearts is sweet romance for all romanceaholics.

Contemporary Romance

Ally Griffin is horrified to learn her new landlord is none other than the infuriating playboy Nate Hardy—the man she blames for getting her jilted at the altar six years ago. Plus, now her ex-fiancé is back in their hometown of Burronga, Australia, to marry his beautiful new bride…for real this time. Everybody’s treating Ally with kid gloves, as though she’s still heartbroken, but she’s just fine, thank you very much.

Nate Hardy is tired of his high-flying city career and bachelor lifestyle and is looking for something more real. The last thing he needs is to find himself undeniably attracted to Ally, the woman with whom he never saw eye-to-eye. But is he even capable of what Ally wants and deserves? As Ally tries to pull her life out of the rut it’s fallen in, she doesn’t count on Nate stirring up her emotions. A short-term fling with the resident bad boy is practically irresistible, but only if she can guard her heart…

    It’s great that there’s such a range of romances these days and that with digital books you can access any style you feel like reading that day. I’m not sure if I’ve said it somewhere else, but the cover for Real Men Don’t Break Hearts looks Hollywood rom com. Love it!

    I do think there is room for all types of books. I am sure that there are others like me who prefer to have the romance emphasized more than the sex.
